Backstory: I’m drowning in issues. Maintaining D7 by itself, much less all of my other applications, bugs and issues that crop up, new feature requests, a business in selling them, providing services and support, working a 40 hr./week day job on top of that is getting me down in a big way.
DataGrab / DataRestore and DataMigrate are my creations, they need attention – but my attention is frequently elsewhere and I don’t have the time to work on them, adapt them to newer technologies, make them more user-friendly and easier to understand, make more things optional and add ‘profiles’ to them, and generally just improve the crap out of them. I even had ideas of a wizard interface (optional of course).
Unfortunately I just don’t have the time necessary right now. So a while back I emailed Fabrice of Fab’s AutoBackup 3 and AutoBackup4Tech fame, to discuss an affiliate partnership, and long story short now I’m on board with Fab’s products. Although it’s one more thing I don’t have time for currently, I’m excited to have been given the opportunity to evaluate his products, and I’m hopeful that he will accept my feedback and feature requests.
If you are a Data user in D7 and Fab’s products don’t quite cut it for you, let me know why and I’ll bring it up with Fab, maybe there’s something I can do to help.
As for the Data features of D7, they will remain in place – I’m not removing them nor will I – if you’ve purchased D7 with these features they will always be available to you, but they will also continue to be on the far back burner as far as my coding time is concerned, if they receive any at all – and I will be recommending Fab’s products for the time being.
If you haven’t heard of Fab’s AutoBackup4Tech, you should look into it! It is an inexpensive and comprehensive solution. Click the banner below:
