NOTICE:
You may wish to view our privacy and data collection policy here regarding email settings/account usage, in addition to the d7x Privacy Policy.
GMail / Google Workplace (Secure Authentication):
NEW: d7x v21.8.11 now allows support for GMail’s OAuth2 authentication with your account, so you won’t need to disable 2-Factor Authentication or use Google generated App Passwords with your account. (See video here for the setup process.)
You can enable this feature in d7x Config by configuring the new GMail Config section above the SMTP server config. GMail accounts (when configured here) take precedence over SMTP server settings (if configured) and they both take precedence over the d7x Use Internal Mail setting (if enabled.)
Other Email Providers use SMTP Server Settings
In order to use your own SMTP server for d7x email functionality, be sure to fill out the server settings completely as specified in the d7x Config. See below for common server settings.
If you are concerned about your email settings being stored by d7x, the credentials are encrypted in your d7x configuration to keep prying eyes from viewing them. Also whether you use our server or your own self-hosted FTP server for d7x configuration storage, if you even use this feature at all, then your config is always SHA256 encrypted with your own technician password when transmitted and stored on either server. You may wish to review the d7x Privacy Policy for more information.
SMTP Settings for Office 365:
Server: smtp.office365.com
Port: 587
Encryption: StartTLS If Possible
Authentication: Login/Basic (The Auto setting may cause some emails to fail with Office 365.)
* Ensure you are using the FULL email address as your SMTP username.
SMTP Settings for GMail / Google Workplace:
* Not recommended, see “GMail / Google Workplace (Secure Authentication)” above!
Server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 587
Encryption: StartTLS If Possible
Authentication: Auto
* Ensure you are using the FULL email address as your SMTP username.
d7x Internal Mail
NEW: As of d7x v21.2.x.x, it is no longer required to configure your own SMTP server to send email, but you may still wish to do so for reasons of privacy (consider that email functionality can be used to send detailed system reporting information.) If you choose to use d7x internal mail, you should know that any information transmitted will remain on d7xTech email servers for a span of up to 24 hours until it is automatically deleted (this occurs daily at approximately 3am ET.) You may wish to review the d7x Privacy Policy for more information.
In order to use d7x internal mail, you should leave the SMTP server settings blank in d7x Config, and ensure “Use Internal Mail = True” under your Email Settings (this is default.) If your SMTP server settings are filled out, whether they work properly or not, they will be used regardless of the ‘Use Internal Mail’ setting. Your d7x subscriber account must also be active to use d7x internal mail (you must have an active recurring subscription, d7x SinglePay licensing does not qualify unless you are within your initial subscriber term.)
My GMail account doesn’t seem to work with SMTP server config, got any ideas?
It is no longer recommended to use the SMTP server configuration with Google email accounts of any type (GMail or Google Workplace) as they are planning to phase out older insecure methods of login. Please scroll to “GMail / Google Workplace (Secure Authentication)” at the top of this page for configuration information and a video. If you really must use this method with a Google account you may find help with the links below.
For accounts without two factor authentication, enabling the “less secure application” feature may help: https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps
Two factor authentication can complicate things as well, and when using this you will need an “application specific password” in order to connect properly to the server through this app. Learn more and obtain application specific passwords here: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en and you can manage them at this link: https://security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords
Finally, we have also had reports that Gmail will sometimes block what it considers a ‘suspicious login‘ and that it should alert you of this the next time you login to the webmail interface. You should be notified that you can ‘unlock‘ your account by going to this link: https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha after which the account should be unlocked and email sending will no longer be blocked.
