WARNING:
I’ve had two people inform me that after using D7 they end up with a corrupted registry on reboot, and have had to replace the hives with backups from System Volume Information.
Unfortunately, I haven’t run into the issue myself… and I’ve only had two people come up with it (and contact me, at least) out of over 5000 confirmed downloads on Majorgeeks alone… So I haven’t a clue what could be happening or really where to even start to look. I’m afraid that even if I wanted to corrupt the registry via code, I wouldn’t know how.
But rest assured, the problem is very real… I would love to blame it on some other circumstance, but the only common denominator in these circumstances is D7 (that, and maybe Windows XP, and viruses of course)…
I’m not ready to say the problem was caused by D7, but I’m going on the technician’s word so I’m not going to rule out D7 as the culprit, either. I have been looking at the issue extensively in the past two days, but until I can at least reproduce the problem on my own, I’m afraid I cannot determine a cause or formulate a fix.
So, you are forewarned! I just wanted to restate that you should use D7 at your own risk!
I will keep this blog updated on any related news about this.
