So earlier this morning I saw a post from someone looking for a way to lock their Windows 10 Start Menu from changes, because after updates and for other reasons the menu layout would occasionally get altered one way or another. So I said to myself hey, there’s a powershell command to backup the Start Menu to an XML file, and a group policy to apply and lock that XML based layout into place. So if you like messing with powershell and group policy, ‘google it’ and you’ll find what you’re after. If not, get Start Menu Tool.
Start Menu Tool can either backup/restore your Start Menu layout or optionally lock it so it cannot be modified (even you as the user cannot add to/remove from or even rearrange the layout of the Start Menu.) Sound good? Then head over to this page to download.
Related tools worth mentioning: Default Programs Manager which can backup and restore default program associations (even your default web browser!)
