How to fix? Import from a backup, of course.. ugh, why would any respectable tech backup his own stuff? (like, my old blog, man… or this one for that matter!)
Well I hear the rules may be in an original copy of the PST (Not a backup/exported PST) and that re-opening the original PST will do the job… but I can’t verify this. In my case, it’s an OST at stake.
In my most recent case (and this is NOT the first time believe me) I temporarily setup an additional mail account in my existing profile for a client’s exchange server via RPC/HTTPs. When this was no longer needed, I deleted the account.
What I didn’t realize is that Outlook 2007 decided my 20+ existing rules belonged on this Exchange server profile and not in my Outlook client. Removing the Exchange account then deleted all my rules. ARGH.
Not being able to find any trace of a local copy of my rules, it only meant I had to setup the exchange account again, export the rules to .RWZ, remove the exchange account, them import the rules.
But how about automatic backup of rules? Sounds like a good idea for a new code project. Too bad I can’t find a method Microsoft will provide to do this, except via the GUI and I’m NOT about to SENDKEYS the sequence.
What now? I can only remind you to TRY and make the effort to backup your rules each time you make a new one or modify an existing one. If you know of a better way, PLEASE CLUE ME IN!
Cheers!
