The Maintenance/Diag page is no more. In it’s place is the Audit/Diagnose page!
The Audit/Diagnose page contains all of the custom apps from Maint/Diag, however it doesn’t contain a lot of the ‘fat’ and filler items that could be found elsewhere in d7. Additionally, it adds all reports generation in one place, with Auto Mode (including save/load defaults, and Full Auto Mode support,) and finally includes a new report LastActivityView.html, thanks to the app of the same name by Nir Sofer of nirsoft.net
The thought process was this:
- The automation for reports generation was difficult to use/config on the fly (was all under one button, Generate Reports on the Maintenance page) and the need for new options arose (e.g. Generate Info Report without passwords.) It was also fairly hidden – many people didn’t even find all of the reports d7 could generate!
- As techs we generally visit the Maint/Diag page first for the actual diagnostic apps located on that page (good to know if a system won’t pass a stress test, or has SMART failures, before starting the malware removal or maintenance process, for example.) It also occurred to me that we are also generally generating reports before doing anything else with d7. It only made sense to put this diag page above everything else, and include reporting features.
Hope this makes sense to everyone, and it is seen as a step forward…
