That will greatly simplify the existing process of creating a virtual hard disk and cloning to it, by either mounting it (real pain) or from inside a running virtual machine (still a hassle.) OK, so you’ve removed malware preventing Windows from starting, check! Or, maybe you just botched an IE8 upgrade. So now you notice IE8 isn’t working… well, maybe you can get to a webpage, but you can’t use the IE toolbar or get to other settings, such as internet properties (i.e. inetcpl.cpl doesn’t launch.) — or maybe it just doesn’t work at all……. Maybe it’s not even IE8 but it’s IE7…… or maybe it’s so foobar...
So, it turns out if you uninstall the express edition and install professional, your professional will still be express…. To avoid the issue, after the uninstall you must manually delete %allusersprofile%Application DataMicrosoftOffice Accountingx.0pa.dat where x is a 3 or 4 depending on your version. Maybe I should have actually trusted an “upgrade” installation although at this point I’m not certain it was ever an option… I also deleted a few other things left behind that...
