I was recently made aware of a social media post several days ago by “Instant Housecall” (the remote support software with the first generation d7 integration agreement) which touted:
Improvements to Auto PC Repair (remote d7) have been rolled out. Faster startup, stability and new back end.
This statement seems to have caused some confusion for our mutual clients, so I just wanted to clear this up for everyone.
There are NO updates to the d7 software, nor will there be at any time.
I believe in the quoted statement above they (Instant Housecall) must have been referring to their own software mechanisms that actually deliver the unmodified d7 binaries to the remote computer system.
The first generation d7 product included with Instant Housecall is the original, official v10.4.35 final release which we no longer host but can still be downloaded from majorgeeks.com. While not a full premium edition, this “remote d7” or “auto pc repair” (as it is sometimes loosely referred to) has some capabilities not found in the free edition, in addition to one or two minor integrations with the remote support software itself (a really sweet web search feature, and allowing an alternate means to our pre-existing dCloud infrastructure for distributing the software remotely in a pre-configured state (including any company branding.)
Update: As of Christmas 2015, anyone (including Instant Housecall users wishing to use d7 in any environment, unrestricted and in a non-remote session, e.g. for on-premises or ‘bench’ usage) can now receive their own fully featured copy of d7 Premium for FREE! www.d7xtech.com/getd7
Development was discontinued on this first generation d7 product in January of 2014, when development on a new second generation product d7II began (www.d7xtech.com/d7ii) and no further d7 updates have been released since that time. d7II development has also been suspended pending the release of a new third generation product d7x.
You can learn more about d7x as well as d7 and d7II history at www.d7xtech.com/d7x
Instant Housecall users with “remote d7” and other first generation d7 users who are interested in a newer, faster, more stable and robust solution (that actually can receive updates) can check out d7II, and subsequently our third generation d7x upon release! Note that all d7II subscribers will receive d7x upon release as a complementary upgrade to their d7II subscription!
I would also like to extend the offer to Corey @ Instant Housecall:
If you wish to offer Instant Housecall customers a discount on the significantly updated d7II/d7x, please let us know and we’ll create a special coupon code just for them!!!
