dFunk is the re-incarnation of MalwareScan, a utility which originally began life known as the original d7 – which had little to nothing to do with automating 3rd party utilities, but focused on registry and file system locations where ad/spy/malware would hide.
d7/MalwareScan – now dFunk was created to assist the technician who MANUALLY removed viruses/malware, and MANUALLY cleaned up a system when finished. It wasn’t about 3rd party automation, but rather aggregation. The automation was there, but came in the form of pre-deletion of known bad items, and whitelist result filtering to remove known good items – leaving you to see only what is left in order to manually examine it and act accordingly. It was also nice to throw in the extra features, like deletion of course, web searches, open/jump to registry and file system locations, etc. Add the fact that no other app out there at the time was scanning multiple user accounts file/registry locations – and AFAIK even today none aggregate them into one results window without having to perform extra steps or separate scans.
By using it at the beginning of your malware removal, in offline/WinPE mode if necessary, then a good tech with a good set of whitelists and a good eye, could have effectively 95% or more of the malware removal finished before starting the first “scan” with other scanner based utilities.
dFunk seeks to bring you a new and updated implementation of that original concept – adding more file system and registry locations in results, more “suspicious” file checking, far more clear and easy to understand search results while adding in more detail as well, a search results filter, simultaneous file system and registry searches, automatic virustotal results on the selected file, and more! There is also a more intuitive interface with a few more of the ‘little’ things considered in UI development to make things easier on the user.
So enough history, GET THE BETA HERE!
dFunk will only be released to those with active d7II subscriptions, and it is also required for the BETA as well.
