Finally!!! As I’m constantly trying to add more features and value to dCloud, I’ve finally hit on something that I should have done long ago.
d7 users subscribing to dCloud, and dSupportSuite users alike, can now use Foolish IT’s own SMTP server instead of having to configure your own.
This provides several benefits, starting with the fact that you don’t have to screw around with getting the settings configured properly in your dApps. Also you don’t need to have your own SMTP server, or create a Gmail account, or create an account with another email provider. Gmail accounts in particular lately have been finicky, leaving people to worry about issues like Gmail’s ‘suspicious activity‘ lockout preventing your apps from emailing when they should!
Also, thanks to new email reply-to functionality in d7 and dSupportSuite, replies to emails sent by these apps will NOT go to my provided email address used for my SMTP (as this is outbound only,) the replies instead go to YOUR actual email address. That’s another benefit, you don’t need to worry about checking email or forwarding it from your dApps email account to your actual one.
If you want to take advantage of this new feature, you’ll need to subscribe to dCloud of course. Then visit your app’s SMTP config and there will be a new option to use my SMTP instead of yours. Just select it and save – no need to test it (and no way to test it directly from the config screen anyhow…)
Enjoy!
