With the latest AMD chipset driver software v3.09.01.140 released on 9/13/2021, the AMD software installer fails to update the registry with the new version number upon installation. As a result, Uncle Carey’s AMD Chipset Notifier will continually notify you of a new version, because it doesn’t know if you have installed it already. It is unknown at this time if there are other issues related to installing the driver over-top itself with this month’s update, but more than likely it was a small oversight in the creation of the installer software.
Due to the above, we are now recommending to “clean install” meaning uninstall the existing AMD chipset software prior to installing the new AMD chipset software, and we have confirmed that when this is done the correct version information is written to the registry.
We just updated Uncle Carey’s AMD Chipset Notifier (it always updates itself on startup, so you will get the latest version every time) so that when it finds a new version of the AMD chipset software, it will prompt you to uninstall the existing AMD chipset software first. UPDATE: We have confirmed it is NOT necessary to restart your PC after uninstall. After the existing version is uninstalled, Uncle Carey’s AMD Chipset Notifier prompt you to install the new version of the software. If you are still experiencing any issues, please contact us.
We do apologize for any confusion this issue may have caused.
