On November 21st, I will be starting a new career.
Currently, I manage a team of techs at a computer store in one city, where I keep an apartment to live at during the week, and I drive 2 hours back home every weekend where I work my side computer business. This couldn’t last forever, so I had to find work in my home town. Problem is, there simply aren’t enough jobs there… So I will be switching careers, sort of.
My new position at home will be working for a non-profit organization dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence. I will be part I.T. but as they don’t have nearly enough work for full time I.T. personnel, I will also be doing advocacy work for the organization. During my spare time I will continue to operate my side computer business, and luckily they have allowed me the flexibility to operate that business DURING my work hours with them, as I need to respond to calls for service! So it is a great opportunity for me, and best of all I will again get to be a full time dad to my son, Wyatt.
But enough about me, what does that mean for you, the D7 user?
D7 will not suffer! D7 is my baby, and I won’t stop working on it! D7 will continue to receive updates, just perhaps at a slower pace (so no more 10 updates a week like has been the norm…)
Not that I won’t have the time to work on D7, not true, but really because despite being I.T. for this non-profit, and operating my own business on the side, the reality of the matter is I won’t be doing that much PC work… I won’t see that many new virus/malware threats or ways to break and fix Windows… Currently work for a high volume business; when I leave this job I will be doing far less bench work on PCs, so I’ll run into far less situations where I say “hey, that’s a good idea/bug fix for D7!”
So I will be relying on YOU, the D7 user, more and more for new feature requests and bug fixes! So keep them coming!!! You’ve been slacking lately, but I’ll need you now more than ever.
Thanks for your time and consideration…
